Q-11

                             Ramzan Quiz

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاتة

بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِٱلرَّحِيمِ

11. Allahuthala says in Quran, "We were witness to their judgement." [21:78] This statement refers to whom?

Answer: Dawud (AS) & Sulaiman (AS).

Ibn Khathir in his tafsir referred the case:

Ibn Jarir recorded that Ibn Mas`ud said: "Grapes which had grown and their bunches were spoiled by the sheep in night. Dawud (AS) ruled that the owner of the grapes should keep the sheep". The loss in the field is equalent to the value of sheep. But the owner of the sheep had no other income other than sheep. He said, "How will I live without any income?"

So Sulaiman (AS) humbly said to his father, `Not like this, O Prophet of Allah!' Dawud (AS) said, `How then?' Sulaiman (AS) said: `Give the field to the owner of the sheep and let him tend them until they grow back as they were, and give the sheep to the owner of the field  and let him benefit from them until the grapes have grown back as they were. Then the grapes should be given back to their owner, and the sheep should be given back to their owner.' So both the parties recover their losses without permanent loss of property.

This judgment established Sulaimon (AS) as a, figure of, unparalleled, wisdom and justice, often referred to as "Sulaiman the Wise".

Allah said: "We made Sulaiman (AS) to understand (the case); and to each of them We gave wisdom and knowledge. (21:79) Allah praised Suleiman (AS) but He did not condemn Dawud (AS).'' He advised Dawud (AS): "O Dawud! Verily, We have placed you as a successor on the earth; so judge you between men in truth and follow not your desire -- for it will mislead you from the path of Allah" (38:26). This verse is a guidance and warning to all Judges.

Allah bestowed Dawud (AS) "Nearness to Us and a good place of return." (38:25). Dawud and Sulaimon (AS’) said with gratitude, “Praise [is due] to Allah, who has favored us over many of His believing servants." (27:16).

الحمدلله
