Q-13

Ramzan Quiz

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاتة

بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِٱلرَّحِيمِ2.

13. Allah Subhanahuthala said, "I will drive him into Saqar". [74:26] Who is he?

Answer: Walid bin Mughirah

Walid bin Mughirah was a renowned poet, highly influential, rich leader of Makka. He listened to the Prophet (SAW)'s recitation of the Surah Fussilath. Being the best and elequent in Arabic language the very first word "Ha--meem" influenced him very much! He was impressed by its style, melody, truth, the guidance, the past events, the descriptions, its miraculous words and its supernatural quality.

"And what can I possibly say? There is not a single man who is more knowledgeable of poetry or prose than I, or even that of the Jinn, and by Allah, what he says bears no resemblance to these things. I swear by Allah that it is not poetry, nor magic, nor the prattling of insanity. Verily, his speech is from the Words of Allah!"  "By Allah, what he says has a sweetness in it, a charm upon it; the highest part of it is fruitful and the lowest part of it gushing forth with bounty; it dominates and cannot be dominated, and it crushes all that is under it." "Verily it is truly elegant. Verily, it is exalted and it is not overcome."

When tha Quraish learnt about this they gathered and claimed, `By Allah, if Walid is converted (to Islam) all of the Quraish will be converted.' But Abu Jahl   went to Walid's house threatened: "Say to Muhammad (SAW) something that would convince your people that you were opposing him." Walid did not wish to leave his leadership and position among Quraish. He said to Abu Jahl “Leave me alone” for some time.

Allah described in Quran in Surah Al Muddathir the picture of how he thought alone in his house;

“Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! And then granted him resources in abundance. And children to be by his side! And made life smooth and comfortable for him! After all, that he desires, I should give more; Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayath.

I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Saud, or to) face a severe torment! Verily, he thought and plotted; So let him be cursed!

How he plotted! And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted. Then he thought;Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way;Then he turned back and was proud; Then he said: “This is nothing but magic from that of old;This is nothing but the word of a human being!” [74:11-25]

As per his advice Quraish, called Muhammad (SAW) a sorcerer, who had brought a message by which he separated a man from his father, brother, wife and family. The Quraish accordingly warned the people attending trade fair and prevented them from converting to Islam.

Allah cursed him twice! And mentioned also the severe punishment he is going to get in the Hell! "I will drive him into Saqar. And what will make you know exactly what Saqar is? It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! Burning the skins!" 74:26 -29].

May Almighty Allah protect all of us from Hell-Fire. Ameen!

الحمدلله
