and the related Ahadith:
السلام عليكم
ورحمة الله وبركاتة
بِسْمِ
ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِٱلرَّحِيمِ
الْهٰٮكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُۙ حَتّٰى زُرْتُمُ الْمَقَابِرَ
The mutual
rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you, until you visit the grave
[Al Quran, 102: 1& 2]
Allah says that every human being is preoccupied with love of this materialistic world, its delights and its adornments, his position and status and love for other human beings. It distains and distracts him till he gets his death and goes to grave. This attitude delays and prevents him from seeking the benefits of Hereafter.
Ahadhees:
Narrated Anas bin Malik (RA) who reported that Ubayy bin Ka`b (RA), hearing from the Allah's Messenger (SAW) said, "If Adam's son had a valley full of gold, he would like to have two valleys, for nothing fills his mouth except dust. And Allah forgives him who repents to Him." [Sahih al-Bukhari, 6439 and Sahih Muslim 1048 c]
It was narrated from Mutarrif (RA), from his father, that the Prophet (SAW) said: "The mutual rivalry (for piling up of worldly things) diverts you, 'Until you visit the graves (i.e. till you die).' The son of Adam says: 'My wealth, my wealth,' but your wealth is what you eat and consume, or what you wear and it wears out, or what you give in charity and send on ahead (for the Hereafter).'" [Sunan an-Nasa'i, 3613 & Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2342 & 3354] and what is beyond this (it is of no use to you) because you are to depart and leave it for other people. [Sahih Muslim, 2959 a and 1047 a]
Narrated Anas bin Malik (RA): Allah's Messenger (SAW) said, "When carried to his grave, a dead person is followed by three, two of which return (after his burial) and one remains with him: his relative, his property, and his deeds follow him; relatives and his property go back while his deeds remain with him." [Sahih al-Bukhari 6514 & Sahih Muslim 2960]
It was narrated from Anas (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “The son of Adam grows old but two things remain young in him: His craving for wealth and his craving for a long life.” [Sahih al-Bukhari, 6421 & Sunan Ibn Majah, 4234]
