The root letters ma-na-ya of the word “Mina” (the tent city) literally means 'to find' or 'to undergo test' or 'to be put to the test. ' Mina is an assembly point for Hajjis from all parts of world, a historical site of Prophet Ibrahim's (AS) sacrifice, and a place to focus on worship. Going and staying at Mina for Hajj on the 8th of Dhu'l-Hijjah (Yawm at-Tarwiyah) is a vital Sunnah, to prepare spiritually for Hajj in Arafath. It foster unity.
Ata reported that Ibn Abbas narrated: "The Messenger of Allah led us in Salat at Mina for Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr, then he left in the morning (of 9th Dhul hijjah) to Arafat." Jami` at-Tirmidhi 879
