3. See the picture and say the two Ayaath of Holy
Quran:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاتة
بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِٱلرَّحِيمِ
Answer:
And your Lord inspired the
bees: “Make your homes in the mountains, the trees, and in what people
construct, and feed
from the flower of any fruit you please and follow the ways your Lord has made
easy for you. From their bellies comes forth liquid of varying colours, in
which there is healing for people. Surely in this is a sign for those
who reflect.” (16:68 & 69).
Allahuthala allotted a chapter
(Surah An-Nahl, "The Bee") to honey bees in the Quran because they
are:
• A wonderful and miraculous creation.
• A profound sign (Ayath) for Allah's power, wisdom and mercy.
• A model for selfless service, kinship, sacrifice and a hard incredible work.
• Symbol of obedience, balance living and gratitude.
• Without grumbling enjoy life with buzzing and dancing.
About Bees:
Bees are nature's primary pollinators:
• Benefit wild plants, agriculture, by transferring pollens (pollination)
• One third of the food we eat is due to honey bee pollination.
• During a single foraging trip it focus on one species and transport large
amounts of pollen in "pollen baskets" on their legs
Colony:
• Colony contains non-reproductive workers, work for colony growth,
maintenance, and defense, honey preparation etc., few reproduce drones (males)
and a single queen.
• They function as a single, integrated colony with complex behaviors.
• Worker bees within the colony care for offspring that are not their own food..All
bee larvae — workers, drones, and queens — are initially fed with royal jelly.
(milky substance secreted by a gland found in a worker bee’s head). Workers and
drone larvae are fed for three days, while the queen bee larvae are fed in its
the entire life.
Queen bees:
• A virgin Queen fly out of hive several times, mate with several drones (which
die shortly after mating) and it stays in the colony and work like an egg
laying machine
• Queens can lay between 2,000 and 3,000 eggs per day lay an egg every 43
seconds.
• Her colony distinct scent (pheromones) maintains the hive
Worker Bees:
• Worker bees live for about two to four weeks.
• At first they do cleaning the honeycomb cells from dust, hairs and pests and
prepare them for eggs or food storage and work 24/7.
• Then move on to waste removal, nectar processing, and feeding the brood.
• When their wax gland becomes active in their second week as adult bees, they
build and repair comb.
• From week two to three, they take on guard duties.
• After three weeks, their wax glands shrink, and they move out of the hive,
and spend the rest of their lives on foraging for food and water.
• Older honey bees effectively revert back to nursing.
• Bees maintain a temperature of 92-93 F by fanning with their wings Honey bees
like caffeine! Studies have shown that caffeine consumption actually improves
honey bees’ memory and learning capabilities
Foraging:
• On a single foraging trip, a worker bee will visit between 50 and 100
flowers.
• Bees navigate using the sun as a compass, can see polarized light and UV
light, also sensitive to the earth’s magnetism.
• When out foraging, worker bees can fly up to 20 miles per hour. To achieve
this, they beat their wings 200 times a second. This is what creates the iconic
bee “bzzz” sound.
• During a typical day foraging, worker bees will make 30 trips, usually within
a two-mile radius of her hive, but may fly as far as 5-6 miles when food is
scarce.
• They communicate with other bees with round dance if honey is near the hive.
• If the food is 100miles away they perform waggle dance indicating location,
distance and amount of the food source.
• Single worker bee in its 6-8-week’s life covers a distance of foraging
roughly 1.5 times the Earth's circumference.
Honey bees do sleep
• They sleep, how deeply, and for how long depends on their age and role within
the hive.
Honey making:
• Nectar is sucked by proboscis of foragers, collected in "honey
stomach", passing it to house bees through mouth to mouth, for enzymatic
breakdown into simple sugars, then storing and fanning it in honeycomb cells
until water evaporates, creating thick honey and finally capped with wax
for storage.
Honey comb:
• Made up of hexagonal wax cells are called comb and have three functions: 1)
to store honey; 2) to transform pollen into bee bread; and 3) to raise new
bees.
• After extracting honey, it is used in candle industry, cosmetics,
pharmaceutical and perfume industry
• Used for preparing shoe polish, furniture etc. for water proofing
• Used in adhesives, chewing gums and inks etc.
Honey:
• Honey is antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory; it can be used
to help treat wounds.
• Honey is a natural humectant and emollient.
Bee venom:
Bee venom has been used in apitherapy for thousands of years to treat
inflammation and joint pain.
