                                        The day of Ashura

لسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاتة

بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِٱلرَّحِيمِ

Ashura commemorates on 10th day of Moharrum month, when the Prophet Musa (AS) and the Children of Israel were escaped from the tyrant Pharaoh. By Allah's Mercy, they miraculously crossed a path formed in Red sea. When Firaun along with his pursuing army chased them in the same path, Allahuthala drowned them all by covering the formed path by sea.

Ashura also has been consisidered as a time for mourning of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (SAW) - Imam Hussain, his family and companions who were brutally martyred during Karbala war.

Allahuthala says in Quran, "We inspired to Moses and his brother, "Settle your people in Egypt in houses and make your houses [facing the] qiblah and establish prayer and give good tidings to the believers." [10:87]

And Musa (AS) said, "Our Lord, indeed You have given Pharaoh and his establishment splendor and wealth in the worldly life, our Lord, that they may lead [men] astray from Your way. Our Lord, obliterate their wealth and harden their hearts so that they will not believe until they see the painful punishment." [10:88]

[Allāh] said, "Your supplication has been answered." So remain on a right course and follow not the way of those who do not know." [10:89]

Then We inspired to Moses, “Strike with your staff the sea,” and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain. And We drew forward the others [the army of Firaun]. And We saved Musa (AS) and those with him, all together. Then We drowned the others. Indeed, in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. [ 26:63 - 68]

And We took the Children of Israel across the sea, and Pharaoh and his soldiers pursued them in tyranny and enmity until, when drowning overtook him, he said, "I believe that there is no deity except that in whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am of the Muslims." [10:90]

(Allahuthhala said), "Now? And you had disobeyed [Him] before and were of the corrupters? [10:91].  So today We will save your body that you may be to those who succeed you a sign. And indeed, many among the people, of Our signs, are heedless. [10:92]

When Prophet Mohammad (SAW) migrated to Madhina, he observed that that Jews were fasting on the day of Ashura. He recommended Muslims also too fast. To differ from the people of the book, he recommended to observe fasting for two days, either 9th & 10th of Moharrum or 10th or 11th.

According to some narrations The Day of Ashura was also the day when:

Adam (AS) repented and was forgiven

★ Nuh (AS)'s ship landed on Mount Judi.

Yunus (AS) was thrown from the belly of the whale and was forgiven

                               Allah knows best

                                Alhumdhulillah
