بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِٱلرَّحِيمِ

Question 3.

"Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You].” [7:126]

Whose prayer is this?

Answer: Prayer of Firaun's Magicians

Musa (AS) came to Egypt  from Madyan, as per instruction of Allahuthala. He and his brother Harun (AS) went to Firaun and demonstrated miracles and clear proofs for the Truth that he brought.

Firaun collected magicians from various parts of the country, promised them great rewards. They displayed their magic and when Musa (AS) displayed magic by throwing his stick, a huge serpant formed, swallowed all the magic produced by the magicians.

Thus the truth was established. The magicians were defeated and utterly humiliated. They fell down in prostration to the Lord of Universe and Lord of Musa and Harun (AS'). But Firaun said, ‘How dare you believe in Him before I have given you permission? This is a plot you have hatched to drive the people out of this city! Soon you will see". He threatened them with cutting off their hands and feet on opposite sides and  crucify them all.

But they said, "Certainly, Allah's punishment is more severe than your punishment and His torment for what you are calling us to, this day, and the magic you forced us to practice, is greater than  your torment. Therefore, we will observe patience in the face of your punishment today, so that we are saved from Allah's torment.' (7:118 - 126)

The true believers will face trials but will be supported by Allah if they remain patient. This verse also highlights the eventual triumph of truth over falsehood.
