5. Do
you know how many cases of resurrection events are quoted as examples by Allah
Subhanahuthala in Quran?
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاتة
بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ

Invariably the communities of all the Messengers sent by Allah Subhanahuthala were asking to their Messengers: “What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead?" (23:62, 37:16, 56:47). Allahuthala in several places of Quran assures, “Surely, the Hour is coming, there is no doubt about it, and certainly, Allah will resurrect those who are in the graves. [22:7]. Surely, He will gather you together on the Day of Resurrection about which there is no doubt. And who is truer in statement than Allah? [4:87]”.
Apart from number of verses about resurrection, Allahuthala has also narrated several cases of Resurrection that took place in the history of mankind. They are:
1. Ibrahim (AS) asked Allahuthala to show Resurrection:
Ibrahim (AS) asked Allahuthala: “My Lord! Show me how ‘You’ give life to the dead”. Allahuthala asked: “What! And do you not believe?” Ibrahim (AS) answered: “Yes! But that my heart may be at ease.” Allahuthala said: “Then take four of the birds, then train them to follow you, then place on every mountain a part of them, then call them, they will come to you flying; and know that Allah is Mighty, Wise” (Baqara, 2:260).
Ibn Khathir’s explaination: Ibrahim (AS) trained the four birds in such a way that if he called them they will come immediately to him. Then he slaughtered them, removed the feathers, and cut them into pieces and mixed those pieces and placed on four or seven hills. Ibn Abbas said, "Ibrahim (AS) kept the heads of these birds in his hand. Next, Allah commanded Ibrahim to call the birds to him, and he did as Allah commanded him. Ibrahim witnessed the feathers, blood and flesh of these birds fly to each other, and the parts flew each to their bodies, until every bird came back to life and came walking at a fast pace towards him, so that the example that Ibrahim (AS) was witnessing would become more impressive. Each bird came to collect its head from Ibrahim's hand, and if he gave the bird another head the bird refused to accept it. When Ibrahim gave each bird its own head, the head was placed on its body by Allah's leave and power. ''
2. Allahuthala resurrected a murdered rich man to reveal the criminal, who killed him:
During the time of Musa (AS) when one man from the Bani Israel killed a man. They fell into dispute among themselves as to the murder. They went to Musa (AS) to solve the dispute and to find out who the murderer was. Allah gave instructions to Musa (AS) and he said to the people, “Verily, Allah commands you that you slaughter a cow.” They said, “Do you make fun of us?” He said, “I take Allah’s Refuge from being among the foolish.” (2:67). The Children of Israel were always stubborn and disobedient. They always mistrusted Musa (AS) and used to ask so many questions. They said, “Call upon your Lord for us that He may make plain to us what type of cow it is!” Musa (AS) said, “Allah says, ‘Verily, it is a cow neither too old nor too young, but (it is) between the two conditions’, so do what you are commanded.” (2:68). If they have obeyed Allah’s command immediately, their matter was made simple.
They said, “Call upon your Lord for us to make plain to us its colour.” He said, “He says, ‘It is a yellow cow, bright in its colour, pleasing to the beholders.’ (2:69). They said, “Call upon your Lord for us to make plain to us what it is? Verily to us all cows are alike, and surely, if Allah wills, we will be guided.” (2:70). Then Musa (AS)] said, “He says, ‘It is a cow neither trained to till the soil nor water the fields, sound, having no other colour except bright yellow.’ They said, “Now you have brought the truth.” So they slaughtered it though they were near to not doing it. (2:71).
Allahuthala quoted this: “when you killed a man, then you disagreed with respect to that, and Allah was to bring forth that which you were going to hide. (2:72) So We said: Strike the (dead body) with part of the (Sacrificed cow), thus Allah brings the dead to life, and He shows you His signs so that you may understand.” (2:73). The Children of Israel agreed and bought the cow, paid a heavy amount because of their choice of cow that fulfilled their requirements. With the part of the slaughtered cow, they stroked it on the dead man. The dead man at once resurrected by Allah’s command and revealed his nephew as the murderer. Immediately he died again.
3. He resurrected seventy Bani Israels when they said ‘We will not believe in you until we see Allah”:
In spite of so many favours, the Children of Israel received from Allah through Musa (AS) they had been always mistrusting him. He said to them, `These Tablets have Allah's Book, containing what He commanded you and what He forbade for you.' They said, `Should we believe this statement because you said it. By Allah, we will not believe until we see Allah in the open, until He shows us Himself and says: This is My Book, therefore, adhere to it. Why does He not talk to us as He talked to you alone, O, Musa". Allahuthala said: “So the thunderbolt overtook you while you looked on. (2:55) Then We raised you up after your death that you may give thanks.” (2:56).
As-Suddi commented, “They died with a bolt of
lightning,” Musa (AS) feared that the Children of Israel would suspect him of
having taken the men to a solitary place and got them slaughtered. He stood up
crying and supplicating to Allah, `O Lord! What should I say to the rest of the
Children of Israel when I go back to them after You destroyed the best of them,
“If it had been Your will, ‘You’ could have destroyed them and me before; would
You destroy us for the deeds of the foolish ones among us”
Allah granted his prayer, and gave those a new life.
Allah revealed to Musa (AS) that these seventy men were among those who
worshipped the golden calf. Afterwards, Allah brought them back to life.
4. Allahuthala resurrected who left their homes in many thousands in fear of death:
“Have you not considered those who left their homes in many thousands, fearing death? Allah said to them, "Die"; then He restored them to life. And Allah is the possessor of bounty for the people, but most of the people do not show gratitude.” (2:243).
Ibn Abu Hatim related that Ibn `Abbas said that these
people mentioned herein, were the residents of a village called Dawardan, a
village several miles away from Wasit (in Iraq). Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ narrated this
incidence when people were to be called for Jihadh. Death is certain. No
caution avert death. There is no refuge from Allah, for death in this world, as
we go to Allah Himself.
There were about four thousand persons from the Children
of Israel departed from their land fearing death by plague. First they went to
a forest. And then went to a fertile valley. They came there to live a long and
happy life. They lived luxuriously with the favours given by Allah. But they
forgot their past and not thankful for the favours of Allah.
When they came to a new place and seeing them
ungrateful, Allah commanded them “To die”. He sent two angels, one from above
the valley and another from below the valley. They just made a single shout.
They all died instantaneously. Their body became rotten and disintegrated.
Their bones were scattered. Then a Prophet from the Children of Israel came
there saw their destruction and prayed to Allah, to bring back their life.
Allah accepted his prayer and commanded to the bones to come together, then to
cover with nerves, flesh and skin and lastly He commanded the souls to return
to their body. Allah has brought them back to their life after long time.
Allah showed His capacity of resurrection, a great sign and a clear
evidence.
5. Allahuthala resurrected Nabi Uzair after 100 years of his death:
“Or the like of him who passed by a town, and it had fallen down upon its roofs; he said: When will Allah give it life after its death? So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years, then raised him to life. Allah asked: How long have you tarried? He said: I have tarried a day, or a part of a day. Said Allah: Nay! you have tarried a hundred years; then look at your food and drink -- years have not passed over it; and look at your ass; and that We may make you a sign to men, and look at the bones, how We set them together, then clothed them with flesh; so when it became clear to him, he said: I know that Allah has power over all things.’ [Al-Baqara, 2:259]
“Mujahid bin Jabir said that the person meant in this ayath 2:259 is Nabi Uzayr. He is a man from the Children of Israel, and the village was Jerusalem. After Nebuchadnezzar destroyed it and killed its people, it became empty of people. The roofs and walls of the village houses fell to the ground. Uzayr stood contemplating about what had happened to that city, after a great civilization used to inhabit it. He said, "Oh! How will Allah ever bring it to life after its death." Because of the utter destruction he saw and the implausibility of its returning to what it used to be. So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years, then raised him up again. The city was rebuilt 70 years after Uzayr died naturally, and its inhabitants increased and the Children of Israel moved back to it.
6. Resurrected the dwellers of cave:
There were several youths, who were totally strangers, from the families of kings and leaders, gathered without participating in the city’s festival. They totally dislike the idol worship and animal sacrifice to their false Gods, during that festival. King Decacias was their ruler. Ibn Kathir in his tafsir says: “It was said that when they called their king to believe in Allah, he refused, and warned and threatened them. He commanded them to be stripped of their clothing bearing the adornments of their people, then he gave them some time to think about the situation, hoping that they would return to their former religion. This was a way that Allah showed kindness for them, because during that time they managed to escape from him and flee from persecution for the sake of their religion.”
Those young men fled, taking refuge in the cave and
prayed, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from
our affair right guidance."[18:10] Their Lord extended His mercy on them
and accommodated them in a spacious cave along with their dog (18:16). They
slept there for years.
Then,” Allahuthala awakened them (from their long deep
sleep) that they might question one another. A speaker from among them said:
"How long have you stayed (here)?" They said: "We have stayed
(perhaps) a day or part of a day." They said: "Your Lord (Alone)
knows best how long you have stayed (here). So send one of you with this silver
coin of yours to the town, and let him find out which is the good lawful food,
and bring some of that to you. And let him be careful and let no man know of
you.’ [18 -19]. “That is how We caused them to be discovered so that their
people might know that Allah’s promise of resurrection is true and that there
is no doubt about the Hour.” [18:21]
