12. Ramzan Quiz

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاتة

بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِٱلرَّحِيمِ

12. Quraish asked, "Why is not this Quran sent down to some great man of the two towns (Makkah and Taif)?" (43:31) Who are those great man in Makka and the man of Taif?

Answer: Several scholars of Tafsir stated that by this, they meant

1. Walid ibn Mughira from Makka

2. Urwah bin Masud Ath-Thaqafi from Taif.

Quraish cannot inclined to believe that a man could be a Messenger:

In the past only men had come as Messengers and a man only could be a Messenger for the guidance of the people and not another kind of being. The Messengers whom Allahuthala send so far were

★ not descending suddenly from heavens

★ they came only (except some) from ordinary dwellings,

★ walked about in the streets, had children and families and

★ stood in need of food and drink from their Sustainer.

What the disbelievers meant was, even if a human being, selected as a messenger to send down a book, that human being should be with lot of wealth, highly influential and awe-inspiring with many followers.

Their question is why Allah would not have selected a great chief like Walid bin Mughirah and Utbah bin Rabiah in Makkah, and nobles like Urwah bin Masud, Habib bin Amr, Kinanah bin Abdi Amr and Ibn Abd Yalil in Taif. Why Allah has selected for this great mission a person who was born an orphan, who had no much property, who passed his youth by tending goats, who even at present earned his living through business with his wife’s money, and who was neither the chief of a tribe nor the head of a family. How could Muhammad bin Abdullah (peace be upon him) be fit for this appointment?

These disbelievers want to decide and distribute the mercy of your Lord. They want to decide to whom Allah should favor and whom He should not. They questioned and want to interfere with Allah’s Wisdom. It is foolish on their part to think prophet hood along with their nobility and richness, which Allahuthala gifted them.

They forget about the universal Divine concepts:

★ It is Allahuthala who is responsible in the distributed of their provisions, power, honor, fame, wealth, government to men.

★ All plans and schemes of man become ineffective against Allah’s decree.

★ Everything will not be given to one and the same person or everything should not be given to everybody.

★ The worldly wealth, leadership and dignity is not comparable to the Prophet hood.

Allah knows best to select a person to direct His Message:

Allah is not ignorant and simple as disbelievers think. He selects one who is with the purest in heart and soul, and of the noblest descent. The Prophet hood is far superior.

When Walid ibn Mughira said: "Does Allah send down revelations to Muhammad ﷺ and ignore me, the greatest chief of Quraish, to say nothing of Urwah bin Masud Ath-Thaqafi the chief of Taif, we being the great ones of Ṭaif and Makka?"

Allah answered to this question as follows:

[43: 32] Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of your Lord? It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in this world, and We raised some of them above others in ranks, so that some may employ others in their work. But the Mercy (Paradise) of your Lord (O Muhammad ﷺ) is better than the (wealth of this world) which they amass.

[43:33] And were it not that all mankind would have become of one community (all disbelievers, desiring worldly life only), We would have provided for those who disbelieve in the Most Beneficent (Allah), silver roofs for their houses, and elevators (and stair-ways, etc. of silver) whereby they ascend,

[43;34] And for their houses, doors (of silver), and thrones (of silver) on which they could recline,

[43:35] And adornments of gold. Yet all this (i.e. the roofs, doors, stairs, elevators, thrones etc. of their houses) would have been nothing but an enjoyment of this world. And the Hereafter with your Lord is only for the Muttaqun.

الحمدلله
