So they put them to
flight by Allah's permission. And ------------- slew Jaluth, and Allah gave him
kingdom and wisdom, and taught him of what He pleased.
Answer: Dawud
(AS) دَاوٗدُ(AS)
After Musa (AS), the Bani lsrael did not follow their religion properly. They disobeyed Allah and His Messengers & were involved in major crimes. A tyrant named Jaluth (Goliath) robbed the properties of the Children of Israel, killed their men, enslaved their women and drove them from their homes.
They asked their Prophet (Samuel) to pray for a king. So that they can fight with the Jaluth. Allah says in Quran: "And their Prophet said to them, "Indeed Allah has appointed Talut (Saul) as a king over you." They said, "How can he be a king over us when we are better fitted than him for the kingdom, and he has not been given enough wealth." He said: "Verily, Allah has chosen him above you and has increased him abundantly in knowledge and stature. And Allah grants His Kingdom to whom He wills. And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knower." (2:247).
“Then when the King Talut (Saul) set out with the army, he said: "Verily! Allah will try you by a river. So whoever drinks thereof, he is not of me, and whoever tastes it not, he is of me, except him who takes (thereof) in the hollow of his hand." Yet, they drank thereof, all, except a few of them. So when he had crossed the river, he and those who believed with him, they said: "We have no power this day against Jalut (Goliath) and his hosts." But those who knew with certainty that they were to meet their Lord, said: "How often a small group overcame a mighty host by Allah's Leave?" And Allah is with the patient ones. (2:249)
"And when they
advanced to meet Jaluth (Goliath) and his forces, they invoked: "Our Lord!
Pour forth on us patience and make us victorious over the disbelieving
people." (2:250)
Ibn Khathir in his thafsir
says:
When the two army met,
huge sized Jaluth came in front and challenged the Children of Israel to send a
single soldier to combat. Nobody came forward from the army, in spite of Talut
offering her daughter in marriage to the one who kills Jaluth.
Dawud, a young lean man
came forward and a roar of laughter came from Jaluth's army. Jaluth proudly
said that he will cut off his head with one blow.
Avoiding the armor and
sword given by the King, Dawud took his sling and whorled a stone. That hits
the forehead of Jaluth and before he raised his sword he fell down and died.
Seeing their commander's death Jaluth's army ran away.
Allah says in Quran: "By Allah's Leave and Dawud (AS) killed
Jaluth and Allah gave him the kingdom
& Prophet hood, and taught him of that which He willed. And if Allah did
not check one set of people by means of another, the earth would indeed be full
of mischief. But Allah is full of Bounty to the Alamin." (2:251).
Allah guided Dawud (AS) and commanded him:
● "O Dawud (AS)! Verily! We have placed you as a successor on earth, so judge you between men in truth (and justice) and follow not your desire for it will mislead you from the Path of Allah. Those who wander astray from the Path of Allah (shall) have a severe torment, because they forgot the Day of Reckoning." (38:26).
● He further said to his
family, "Work you, O family of Dawud (AS)
with thanks!" (34:13)
As Allah said, "He
taught Dawud (AS) of what He pleased":
★ He gave the Zabur (Psalms)(4:163, 17:55)
★ He gave Prophethood & Knowledge (21:79, 27:15)
★ He made his kingdom strong and gave him Al-Hikmah and sound judgement in speech and decision. (38:20)
★ And He subjected the mountains and the birds to glorify His Praise along with Dawud (AS), 29:79, 34:10, 38:19) after the mid-day till sunset and after the sunrise till mid-day. (38:18)
★ And He made the iron soft for him."(34:10) Saying: "Make you perfect coats of mail balancing well the rings of chainarmor, and work you (men) righteousness" (34:11).
★ And indeed He gave knowledge to Dawud (AS) and Sulaiman (AS), and they both said: "All the praises and thanks be to Allah, Who has preferred us above many of His believing slaves!" (27:15, 38:30)
★ Dawud (AS), was ever
oft-returning in all matters and in repentance. (38:17 & 24).
Allah says in His Book "He forgave him, and verily, for him is a near access to Us, and a good place of return (Paradise)." (38:25) It is narrated in al-Saheehayn from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Amr (RA) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The best fasting is the fast of Dawood: he used to fast one day and not the next.”
